Airtel is a product brand operated by Robi Axiata Limited in Bangladesh, operated under the license of Robi Axiata Limited. Axiata Group of Malaysia and Bharati Enterprise of India agreed on January 28, 2012 to consolidate their respective activities in Bangladesh. Airtel Bangladesh Limited and Robi Axiata Limited merged on 16 November 2016. As a result of this merger, Airtel Bangladesh Limited was legally dissolved and Airtel customers began to operate under Robi Axiata Limited. In Bangladesh, Airtel customers use Robi Axiata Limited’s network. 

 

In December 2005, Warid Telecom International LLC received a license from BTRC to become the 6th GSM mobile phone service provider in Bangladesh for 50 million. It officially launched on May 10, 2006 with the provision of mobile network services in 61 districts and covering 70% of the population. In January 2010, Warid sold an 80% stake in Bharti Airtel in India for 1 million. Which later became known as Airtel Bangladesh Limited. Bharti’s proposal included an initial investment of ৩০ 300 million to create new shares in the company. The BTRC ratified the agreement on January 4, 2010. On December 20 of the same year, it started providing services under the name Airtel. 

In March 2013, Warid sold its remaining 30% stake in Bharti Airtel-owned Singapore-based Bharti Airtel Holdings PT Limited for 75 million. In January 2016, Robi and Airtel Bangladesh announced that they wanted to acquire their operator, and the joint venture would be known as Robi. Jatra Robi started its journey on 16 November 2017 as an integrated company.
