Capsicum cultivation method / nutritional value of capsicum in Bangladesh

Capsicum or sweet pepper is a popular vegetable all over the world. So its popularity is increasing day by day in Bangladesh. These sweet peppers come in a variety of sizes and shapes. However, the fruit is usually round and the skin is thick. Moreover, although sweet pepper is not our traditional vegetable, its cultivation is expanding lately. It is cultivated by a limited number of farmers, especially in the vicinity of big cities. And these are sold in elite hotels and various big markets. There is also a lot of potential for export of sweet chilies abroad. Because sweet pepper is the second most important vegetable in the world after tomato.

Sweet pepper is a very valuable vegetable in terms of nutrition. This is because it contains a lot of Vitamin C and can be easily grown in tubs. So the people of the country can be encouraged to eat sweet pepper.

Rules for planting sweet pepper

Loam or sandy loam soil is much better for cultivating capsicums or sweet pepper. None of the sweet peppers can tolerate drought and early water accumulation. Therefore, the best time to sow sweet pepper seeds is from October to November. And 1 gram of seed is needed for every century. And for the first time to make seedlings, soak the seeds in water for 12 hours and add 10 cm to the prepared seedbed. Seeds should be sown in long lines. 

Then the main land should be well prepared with plow and ladder and the bed should be made. Each bed should be 2.5 feet wide. And you need to put a drain between the two beds. For every hundred acres of land, 40 kg of dung, 1 kg of urea, 1.4 kg of TSP, 1 kg of MOP, 20 grams of zinc and 450 grams of gypsum have to be applied.

Since Capsicum cannot tolerate drought or waterlogging, the land needs to be irrigated as required. When a tree starts to bear fruit, poles should be provided so that the tree does not fall on the fruit bar. The land should be kept free from weeds at all times.

Harvesting

Usually sweet peppers can be picked from the field before they turn red when ripe green. Fruits are usually collected from the tree once a week. This is because after harvesting the fruits have to be stored in a cool and shady place before marketing. However, during fruit collection, a small amount of bota should be left on each fruit.

Disease-plague

Sweet peppers or capsicum are attacked by some insects and diseases. These include jabpoka. Thrips insects, red spiders, anthracnose diseases, blight diseases etc. In case of attack of these diseases, approved pesticides should be applied in consultation with the nearest agricultural worker.

Conclusion

Capsicum is a type of sweet pepper. It has been used as a vegetable. However, the demand was much lower in Bangladesh. But now the demand is increasing day by day. So at present it is also being cultivated in Bangladesh.
