The Ethnic People of Bangladesh

In Bangladesh people of different religions and cultures live in harmony. Similarly, people from different ethnicity live here as well. Ethnic people are those people who have the same nationality but they are from different cast, culture, tradition, and religion.

There are around thirteen different ethnic groups of people who live in our country. They mostly live in the Chittagong hill tracts area. Among the ethnic group The Chakma, The Marma, The Chak, The Mro, The Morong, The Shantal, The Tripura are some of the most well-known groups in Bangladesh.

Apart from the Chittagong Hill Tract area, there is some ethnic group who live in other parts of Bangladesh. As, Sylhet, Moulavi Bazar, Patuakhali, Jessore, Mymensingh are some other parts of Bangladesh. These ethnic people have a different culture, language, traditions, religions, food habits, etc. than the rest of the people in Bangladesh.

The majority of the Chakma people are mostly Buddhist. They have a unique clothing tradition. Men usually wear western-style shirts and trousers where women maintain a traditional clothing pattern. Their clothing patterns consist of two pieces of cloths, one of them is worn as a shirt and the other one is wrapped around the lower part covering from waist to ankle.

Their traditional color is black blue and red. Although, they wear vibrant colors of clothing along with various types of ornaments. Their traditional food is rice served with millet, corn, mastered, and vegetables such as yams, cucumber, pumpkins, cucumbers, and many more. Also, they celebrate all kinds of Buddhist festivals.

Moreover, Shantal people weave their own clothes. They wear clothes name “thambui” which is worn for the lower part and for the upper part they wear “Angi”. They love to eat spicy, sour, and hot food. They speak in the Marma language. Their most famous festival is Sangrai which is celebrated for three days. They have a very unique culture and traditions.

Furthermore, the traditional clothes for Tripura are a towel which is called “Rikutu Gamcha” and Kubai which is a shirt for men. Women were sharee in a different way. Their favorite food is called “Mui Borok”. They also eat fermented and dried fish stew, meat roast, different local hers with rice. Their favorite leisure time activity is fishing.
