The government has published new guidelines for the Primary School Stipend Programme in Bangladesh. These guidelines explain who will receive the stipend, how much money students will get, and what conditions they must follow.
The Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) released the new instructions on 5 March 2026 through its official website.
This stipend programme aims to support primary school students and reduce the financial pressure on families. The government wants to make sure children can continue their education without difficulty.
Who Will Receive the Stipend
According to the new guideline, several types of students will be included in the stipend programme.
The stipend will be given to students studying in:
- Government primary schools
- PTI-affiliated experimental schools
- Schools managed by the Shishu Kallyan Trust
This means a large number of primary level students across the country will receive financial support from the government.
Purpose of the Primary Stipend
The stipend helps families manage small but important education expenses.
Parents can use this money to buy things such as:
- School bags
- Uniforms
- Shoes
- Umbrellas
- Tiffin boxes
- Other basic school materials
These items may seem small, but they are important for many families. The stipend makes it easier for children to attend school regularly.
The programme also supports the government’s National Social Security Strategy, which focuses on helping low-income families.
Monthly Stipend Amount by Class
The government has fixed different stipend amounts depending on the student’s class level.
Pre-Primary Students
Students studying in pre-primary classes will receive:
- 75 Taka per month
Class 1 to Class 5
For students from Class 1 to Class 5, the stipend amount depends on how many children from the same family are studying.
- One student from a family: 150 Taka per month
- Two students from the same family: 300 Taka per month
Class 6 to Class 8
For students studying in Class 6 to Class 8, the stipend amount is slightly higher.
- One student from a family: 200 Taka per month
- Two students from the same family: 400 Taka per month
However, the government has set a limit. A family can receive stipend benefits for a maximum of two students.
Officials also said the stipend amount may change in the future if necessary.
Important Conditions to Receive the Stipend
Students must follow some conditions to continue receiving the stipend.
Attendance Requirement
Students must attend at least 80% of their classes every month.
This rule applies to:
- Pre-primary students
- Class 1 students
- Class 2 to Class 8 students
If a student remains absent for a long period, the stipend may stop.
Exam Result Requirement
Students from Class 2 to Class 8 must also achieve minimum marks in their final exam.
They must score:
- At least 40% marks in each subject
For students with special needs, the requirement is slightly lower.
- Minimum 33% marks in each subject
Birth Registration and Guardian Account
To receive the stipend, students must also complete some official requirements.
These include:
- A digital birth registration certificate for the student
- A mobile financial service account for the guardian
- The account must be linked with the guardian’s National ID
The stipend money will be sent directly to the guardian’s mobile banking account.
When the Stipend Can Be Stopped
The stipend may stop if a student fails to follow the rules.
For example, payments may stop if:
- The student fails the exam
- The student remains absent for three consecutive months
However, if the student again meets the requirements later, the stipend may restart.
Why This Programme Is Important
Many families in Bangladesh struggle to manage education expenses. Even small costs like uniforms, bags, or shoes can become difficult for some parents.
The primary stipend programme helps reduce that pressure.
It also encourages parents to send their children to school regularly. When attendance increases, the overall education quality of the country improves.
For many students, this financial support plays an important role in continuing their studies.
