History Of Dhaka Education Board
We know that there are 11 boards for managing the education activities of Bangladesh properly. Of these, the Dhaka Board is the oldest. In fact, it was through the Dhaka Board that the education board was started in Bangladesh. In the British rule, on May 7, 1224, the “Intermediate and Secondary Education Board, Dhaka” was established on the recommendation of the Sadler Commission. At the time of establishment, the Intermediate College & high schools in Dhaka city and similar Islamic institutions in Bengal were under the control of this board. But, after the partition of 1947, the activities of this board were break down by a government order in September. Then, It was running till 1961 by the name of “East Bengal Secondary Education Board”.
In a new way, it controls not only the name, but also its activity. In this case, secondary education activities were within this board. But, higher education was in Dhaka University. However, the University of Dhaka later transferred the higher education program to the Dhaka Board again and it resumed its new name. Before the war, it was named “Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, East Pakistan” and later it started its journey as “Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka” and is now in operation.
